school Transport 2016-17

Leicester Forest East

New Year 7 pupils

The Local Authority Transport Policy has now changed. This new policy means that from September 2015,  pupils joining the school from Leicester Forest East living in the original catchment area of South Charnwood High School are NOT be eligible for free transport to the school provided by Leicestershire County Council. This is extremely disappointing news for pupils and parents in Leicester Forest East and for South Charnwood High School.

The Governors of South Charnwood High School have, therefore, taken the decision to provide FREE transport for new Year 7 pupils starting at South Charnwood in 2016/2017 who live in the original South Charnwood High School catchment area in Leicester Forest East.

Governors and staff wish to be completely open and honest with parents and fulfil their duties in the most professional manner. Therefore, at this moment in time, this commitment is for Year 7 pupils for the whole of the academic year 2016-2017 only and Governors will review this commitment in the summer term 2017. Parents will be informed of this decision before the end of the academic year.

Parents will receive a bus pass and timetable during the summer holiday for this bus service run by Orbit Coaches.

Year 8 Pupils

Parents of year 8 pupils who live in the original South Charnwood High School catchment area in Leicester Forest East are provided with a bus service, partly subsidised by the school, costing £380 per pupil for the whole academic year 2016-17. This subsidy is for one year in the first instance and the school is at present in no position to guarantee the same, or indeed, any subsidy at all for 2017-18. This will be reviewed by Governors in the summer term 2017.

All year 8 pupils who received free transport in 2015-16 have a seat reserved on this bus service for 2016-17.

Parents should either pay the full amount of £380 per pupil in one lump sum or pay an initial termly instalment of £130 per pupil before the 1st September 2016. Another termly instalment of £130 should be paid by 11th January 2017 with a final payment of £120 payable by 2nd May 2017.

Payment can be made by Parentmail or by cheque(s) made payable to SCHS.

Parents will receive a bus pass and timetable during the summer holiday for this bus service run by Orbit Coaches.

Year 9, 10 and 11 Pupils

Pupils in years 9-11 are eligible for free transport to the school provided by Leicestershire County Council. The school transport team at County Hall will send bus passes and timetables to parents during the summer holidays.

This is a private hire arrangement and the cost of securing a seat on this service for the academic year 2016-17 will be £480 per pupil, which can be paid over a period of six monthly instalments of £80.00 starting on 1st August 2016. No bus pass will be issued until a payment has been made. The offer of a seat on this service is subject to availability and is on a "first come, first served" basis.

Pupils living out of catchment in other areas

Parents of pupils who live outside the traditional catchment area for the school are responsible for finding their own transport to and from school.

The standard of behaviour on school buses is generally very good.  Pupils are advised that careless behaviour can be dangerous to themselves and others, especially when they are waiting at bus stops in the morning.  Prefects are assigned duties on every bus to help maintain good order.  When pupils do not reach expected standards of behaviour sanctions will be imposed. Serious or persistent bad behaviour may result in a ban from the bus in which case parents must make alternative arrangements for getting their child to school.

All queries regarding the provision of school transport should be made to the Head of Section, Schools Transport, County Hall, Glenfield, Leicester.  Tel: 0116 3050002.  Any other problems please contact Mr. Andrews at school.
