U14 Girls Football

Our U14 Girls travelled to Mansfield to play The National CofE academy on Tuesday 12th December in round 5 of the nationals.

Blustery weather to start the game but this soon changed to perfect football conditions. First half the South Charnwood girls were up against the slope and within the first 10 minutes they found themselves 1-0 down due to some excellent football from the opponents. We then managed to get back in the game with some real battling displays in midfield to win the ball back and Ava Alexander able to find the back of the net. Towards the end of the first half we took the game to CofE academy with great retention of ball and composure in all areas of the pitch. Ruby Bolingbroke was able to wiggle through the defenders and put us ahead just before the break 2-1.

Second half we came out on the front foot and managed to get the third goal through Chido Rugara’s 30-yard effort smashing the bar, and Ruby Bolingbroke there to score her second of the game. We had a much better second half and played some really good football. CofE were probably the best team we had faced in our nationals’ journey so far. Excellent defending from Megan Manning. Lith Hoult, Ellie Williams and Frankie Harrison kept them at bay. Ruby Bolingbroke went on to score her third of the game and take home the match ball. Goals from Ava Alexander and Ella Gallo were enough to see us through to the last 16 of the nationals’ cup with the 6-2 win. Incredible achievement from all the girls. We now wait to see who our next opponent is after the new year.
