Trips & Visits

During their time at South Charnwood, pupils will have opportunities to take part in educational visits and residential courses. All are organised and supervised by experienced teachers and support staff with appropriate qualifications. Places on these visits are generally open to all pupils in the designated age group; staff may, however, withdraw an offer of a place to pupils whose behaviour or commitment gives cause for serious concern.

The school will make every reasonable effort to allow all pupils access to trips including those with disabilities, special educational needs and from families experiencing financial hardship. Although, by law, parents have the right to ask that visits such as this are free of charge, it would clearly be beyond our means to run them if parents make this request. Please note pupils that withdraw from trips at the last minute, without medical evidence, will run the risk of not being selected for future trips. This is mainly due to the school not being able to recoup the income lost and or not being able to find a replacement.

Pupils in receipt of Pupil Premium and those on free school meals wishing to take part in a trip are asked to contact the Headteacher confidentially to discuss subsidies. Other individual cases of financial hardship can also be discussed confidentially with the Headteacher so that a joint decision can be made as to how we can enable your child to take part in a visit.

Residential Trips

Year 7

The Modern Foreign Languages department organise an educational visit to north-east France for pupils during June of Year 7. It presents a fantastic opportunity for pupils to build on the knowledge developed in their lessons.

Pupils stay at Le Château du Broutel, a large recently-renovated château in Rue, near Le Touquet. The day trips include a visit to a market where pupils will have to complete a French speaking challenge; a chocolate factory; the Somme battlefields; the historic town of Rue and Disneyland Paris. The purpose of the visit is for the children to speak as much French as possible and to enjoy some of the places of interest and culture on offer in north-east France. It is also intended to be an insight into the humanities work that they will be covering in Year 9 regarding the first world war.

Cost of the trip in June 2026: £770 per pupil.

In January of Year 8, the PE department run a ski trip to Claviere on the Italian/French border. The ski area of Claviere is 55 kms, part of the Milky Way circuit and linked to over 400 kms of pistes.
