Prevent

South Charnwood High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all of our pupils. We see protecting our pupils from radicalisation or extremism as a priority. We acknowledge that all staff at South Charnwood have a duty to prevent young people being drawn into terrorism.

Building resilience of young people and the promotion of fundamental British values, The Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect and Tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs is at the heart of preventing radicalisation and is covered extensively with our young people throughout their PDC lessons, which is a core subject delivered across all year groups in Key Stage 3 and 4 and provides children at South Charnwood with a safe place in which they can discuss controversial issues, and be given the knowledge and confidence to challenge extremist beliefs and ideologies.

The school's internet filtering system effectively prevents pupils from accessing dangerous websites and pupils receive regular lessons and assemblies on e-safety.  All teaching staff have completed the appropriate training to help spot pupils in danger of radicalisation and new staff receive training in their safeguarding duties. Our school works closely with the local police and Children's Services to offer support to any pupils identified as being at risk
